In this article I will give you my point of view on learning robotics.
That said, even if you haven't done a higher education or not in a similar field, you can still make robots. There are different ways to make robots. You can even take it a step further by learning how to make robots. So you can make your own robots yourself. You can directly buy kits to make your robot. What is a kit to make a robot? It's simply a set of parts with a manual. The manual explains how to assemble the parts, and normally it will show you how to assemble the robot and use it. There are kits that are more or less good. There are some who will have a pedagogical approach more than others. And some kits can also offer different assemblies with the same parts.
You can also find videos, articles on the internet or even books that tell you how to make certain robots by telling you the parts used, comment on the assemblers, and comment on making them work with all the features offered by the robot. Here it is a little less easy because you have a little less guarantee on the success of your robot. You will also have to buy all the parts yourself and be careful to take exactly the same ones as in the tutorials (the video, the article or the book). You may also encounter the experience problem. Indeed, if you have little experience in "do-it-yourself", you may have difficulty with certain manipulations. For example, if you've never done welding, the first few times may seem complicated. It's a great way to learn! I absolutely do not say the opposite. But you risk by a series of clumsiness to have a different result than that expected. This shouldn't scare you, you can do very well this way, but keep in mind that the person teaching you how to make the robot (with an article, a video, etc.) has more experience than you. To learn to make robots, you can also learn the theory with studies or by yourself on training courses on the internet (or even by books). When I speak say with the theory, I absolutely do not think only of the studies. Do research on the internet to learn about electronic components and a good way to learn. Normally it is essential to make a robot yourself because there is a huge amount of possible components. So, you have to find out to take the most suitable component. With this knowledge, you study the robot you want to make, you buy the components you have chosen, you assemble them and then you put your robot into operation.
I may have overlooked some ways you can make a robot yourself, but the biggest one is listed just above.
In these three ways to make your own robot, we go from the easiest to the most difficult. Indeed, in the first case, you just have to follow the instruction manual correctly and you're done. While in the last method, you have to search, think and have a little experience in the field.
In my case it's rather simple, I started to learn by myself by making robot kits, then I continued in this way with my studies. I've also made bots/projects that are shared by other people. But even in my study period, I oriented my study projects towards robotics and I continue to make robots. So personally, I used the 3 methods mentioned above.
